Purveyors of thinking-person’s metal, Meshuggah, will be releasing their new album “obZen,” on March 11th. The band’s music has generally been dark and complex, and “obZen” and its album cover — an expanded view of which is shown here — promise more of the same.
As Blabbermouth (”the undisputed source for heavy metal & hard rock news from around the globe”) reports, the band has explained that their oddly clunky album title is “a play on the words ‘obscene’ and ‘zen.’” The CD cover, “depicting a man meditating in the ‘zen lotus’ position while covered in blood,” is meant to be “a metaphor for mankind finding peace of mind through acting obscene.”
Hm-kay.
Yeah, it sounds a little dubious. But then again, any band that can release something as unique as Meshuggah’s 2005 CD Catch Thirty-Three probably deserves all the creative license they take.
You can see and hear more of obZen here.

Awesome dude, I was just listening to Meshuggah’s “Chaosphere” the other day wondering when they were working on something new. Checked out a track from their MySpace page, very good stuff. Thanks for the post man!
Ps. thanks for the link on the Oreo thing too…
